Crisis communication is a branch of public relations that is designed to protect and defend companies and organizations that face challenges that threaten their brand or reputation. These types of sudden and unexpected events fall into four categories: acts of God, mechanical problems, human error, and management decision or indecision. In this course we explore different phases of crises, anticipating crises as part of an effective public relations plan, how to write a comprehensive crisis communication plan, communication challenges, and the role of a crisis communication team. We study how to develop strategic messages and how to use social media during a crisis.
