Blueprint reading, math, 3-D spatial, and mechanical aptitude are integrated into the hands-on projects. The course covers how to safely and effectively operate machinery, use proper terminology for all items, precision measurement, layouts, print reading, machine set-ups, hand tools, measuring tools, cutting tools, and all other processes in production work flow. Selected lab equipment is typically found in most conventional machine shops. The required extensive hands-on projects are especially attractive to prospective employers looking for students with machining experience. This is a self-paced course goes through 2 pages of instruction and assessments, followed by a set of lectures and slides to cover 1 lesson, with labs covering the engine lathe, the vertical milling machine, and the surface grinder. Prior to the downloadable course content, the site covers the outcomes students should identify from your course, such as being able to demonstrate knowledge and use of common shop hand tools and properly use semi-precision and precision measuring tools.
