This course discusses basic functions, physical properties, and roles of electrical components and systems, such as transformers, electric circuits, and AC and DC motors; troubleshooting techniques, such as strategies to identify, localize, and correct malfunctions; systematic preventative maintenance; and electrical and mechanical component safety. This is a self-paced course goes through 4 pages of instruction and assessments, followed by a set of lectures and slides to cover 15 lessons. Prior to the downloadable course content, the site covers the prerequisites of differentiating among voltage, current, and resistance, and measuring voltage, current, and resistance. The course contains videos, articles and activities to assist in your understanding of the topic, along with lecture information and presentation slides that can be used when teaching this topic to others. The outcome from this course is that you should have a starting point from which you can create a course on basic electrical components in a complex mechatronics system. Students that take your course should be able to get further outcomes such as explaining basic physical properties of electrical components and correcting malfunctions in electrical components, or identifying the expertise required to correct the malfunction.
